This month our subject in the English lesson was reality shows. Once we had debated whether such shows should appear on TV, our teacher, Mrs. Ebert, had the idea to play a scene from the reality show, Big Brother. So we were divided into small groups, each group acting out a scene and the best would be voted by the class.
All students used their own creativity, co-operated with each other and practised their drama skills. But the most noticeable was the exercise in English, as we had to play our roles spontaneously in English. This was a big challenge for us, because we had to impersonate some “over the top” people, and to speak only English, informal English for a change! Nevertheless, we had fun, we laughed and we enjoyed it. This was a remarkable experience, as the lesson became interactive and the class escaped from the daily routine.
To sum up, new teaching methods, such as the simulation of Big Brother show, should be established in different subjects because in this way the lesson becomes more interesting and the class pays more attention.
